The Fire Station was located in the low
building with the two yellow doors (on the left and near the centre of the
photo). Only the right hand door as you look at the photo was used as the Fire
Station so as you can imagine it was pretty cramped. The two storey white house
immediately to the left of the Station was Sub Officer Alex Mackie’s house and
the left hand yellow door was his own garage for his car etc.
The turnout siren was located on a couple of telegraph poles to the right and
slightly behind the Station in the grounds of the old Cordiner Kirk which burned
down (I think in the very late 1940’s/early 1950’s and certainly no later than
1952 when my family moved from the house we lived in just off the right hand
side of the photo.)
