Notes

Like everything else there was much talk before any real action was taken to have fire fighting apparatus in the village. There had been times in the past when fire had done much damage because the fire brigade had to come from Falkirk (7 miles).
In December 1911 fire fighting apparatus had been placed in the village by the County Council for the use in the parish. That apparatus included 750ft of hose piping, a stand pipe, and nozzle. The hydrants along the water track were so placed that the available piping reached any property between them. It was stored at Mr. A. Gillespies, Main Street, Slamannan.
In May 1942 the Fire Brigade took over the Rosemount School and converted it to receive the fire fighting equipment under the command of L/Fm A. Thompson  until 1959.
